Azhar Mahmood Sagar (Punjabi: اظہر محمود ساگر; born February 28, 1975) is a Pakistani-born cricketer who became a British citizen in 2011 and is now a fully qualified English cricketer.[1] Originally his father objected to his interest in cricket, but later started to appreciate it seeing his accomplishments. As a teenager, Azhar was mentored by Irfan Bhatti who played a One Day International for Pakistan in the early 90’s. When not doing net practice, Azhar would fancy himself playing tape ball cricket on the cemented pitch in the cricket ground in front of his home.[2]

Azhar made his One-Day International debut against India in 1996 at Toronto Cricket Club, Toronto,[3] but did not gain major recognition until his Test debut against South Africa the following year at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi when he hit a century and a half-century without being dismissed.[4] He later went on to score two more centuries against the South Africans.

He joined the Pakistani team primarily as a medium pacer but he has surprised many by his batting prowess. His hard hitting but orthodox batting skills have also been extremely useful in the one-day game. Unlike most Pakistani pacers who are swing bowlers, he is a useful English-style seam bowler, who can chip in with wickets in time of need.[2]

In 2000, Lt-General Tauqir Zia, then the PCB chairman, said that the board would choose the next captain - not based on seniority alone - and if people find the choice unacceptable they will not be selected. Later - in front of some senior players - he told Azhar Mahmood that he will be the next Pakistan captain. Together they would plan the future strategy. But till now this never came to happen.[5]

Azhar has played county cricket for Surrey[6] and in November 2007 signed a two-year deal to play for Kent.[7]

He was recalled to the national side for the ODI series against South Africa in early 2007,[8] but subsequently dropped when the 2007 Cricket World Cup team was announced. He was however recalled to go with the squad to the West Indies after a knee injury to Abdul Razzaq. It was Mahmood's 3rd World Cup.[9]

However, aside from playing in a practice match, Azhar did not get a chance to participate in the World Cup and Pakistan's early exit from the tournament meant that he was once again, in line for being axed from the national squad. Following his exclusion, Azhar returned to playing county cricket in UK. Over the years, due to his constant exclusion from the Pakistani squad and the fact that he has crossed the 30 year mark in his age, it seems that Mahmood is not as interested in returning to Pakistani line up as he once was. His weight gain, mediocre performances in ODIs, combined with the tough competition for the all rounder slot in the Pakistani line up means that his chances for making a return to the national squad are very limited. He has recently signed with the Indian Cricket League (ICL) and has been released from his central contract.[10]
Recently he has received British citizenship, thus allowing him to play for Kent as an English-qualified player, further distancing himself from a recall to the Pakistan side.[7]

It was announced that Azhar would be playing for the Auckland Aces as one of their overseas professionals in the 2011/12 season.[11] In the 4th February, 2012 IPL auction, Mahmood was sold to Kings XI Punjab for $200,000, double his base price of $100,000.[12]

Full name Saeed Ajmal

Born October 14, 1977, Faisalabad, Punjab

Major teams Pakistan, Faisalabad, Islamabad Cricket Association, Khan Research Labs, Water and Power Development Authority

Playing role Bowler

Batting style Right-hand bat

Bowling style Right-arm offbreak

Saeed Ajmal, an offspinner, received a call-up to the Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup at the age of 30 after an impressive domestic season with Khan Research Labs in 2007-08, during which he took 38 wickets in 12 first-class matches at an average of 29 apiece, and 12 wickets in nine list A games. He made an immediate impression with his subtle variations, unafraid to use the doosra. But his career took off with a series of ODI performances that bewildered Australia in Dubai and Abu Dhabi; he gave away few runs and his doosra was nigh-on unreadable. The ICC called him for his action, though it was cleared soon after. The pressure didn't get to him and immediately after, he played a crucial role in Pakistan's drive to the 2009 World Twenty20 title, regularly bottling up the middle overs with Shahid Afridi. He ended the joint second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, with an exemplary economy rate as batsmen around the world struggled to pick a big turning doosra or even cope with his changes in flight, pace and angle. Consistent performances in the ODI version have quickly earned him a reputation for choking the runs in the middle overs with clever variations.

Aamir Sohail Biography
Sohail who represented Pakistan on more than 200 occasions has been a frequent critic of the Pakistan Cricket Board particularly during the tenure of previous incumbent Ijaz Butt. Sohail worked under Chairman Ijaz Butt, before resigning in July 2009 due to what he cited as a lack of job satisfaction.
Speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net from Lahore, Sohail blasted the Pakistan Cricket Board for appointing Intikhab Alam to head the committee that is responsible for identifying the next coach of Pakistan. The committee was formed following Waqar Younis' resignation prior to the team's departure for Zimbabwe, due to health reasons.
"The individual who is responsible for the extremely important task of identifying the next coach of the national team and recommending him to the chairman should be someone who knows the job themselves and that is certainly not Intikhab" stated Sohail.

Sohail continued, "For the PCB hierarchy to put Intikhab in charge of recommending the next coach of Pakistan to the chairman is absolutely scandalous.
Here is a profile and biography of Pakistan cricket player Aamer Sohail. Read for information on PAK cricketer Mohammad Amir Sohail

Full Name: Mohammad Aamer Sohail Ali
Date of Birth: Sep 14, 1966, Lahore, Punjab

Major Team: Pakistan, Allied Bank, Habib Bank Limited, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Somerset
Playing Roll: Batting All Rounder
Batting Style: Right
Bowling Style: Slow left-arm orthodox

A combative left-hand opener, Aamer Sohail was a predominantly back-foot player whose forte was improvisation. He loved to attack, and almost found it impossible to control his aggression. He showed no fear, epitomised by his baiting of Venkatesh Prasad in a 1996 World Cup quarter-final in front of a hostile Bangalore crowd. He was an effective left-arm spinner, more a one-day bowler than a Test wicket-taker. Aamir played a big part in Pakistan's World Cup triumph in 1992, and famously told Ian Botham that he might want to send his mother-in-law in to bat after Botham was controversially given out for 0 in the final. He captained Pakistan at the height of the match-fixing controversy, and was one of the whistle-blowers. His career suffered as a result, and he left the international scene early to work in broadcasting, where he might have tried harder to suppress his personal prejudices.

Profile
Abdul Razzaq was once rapid enough to open the bowling and remains composed enough to bat anywhere, though he is discovering that the lower-order suits him nicely. His bowling - the reason he was first noticed - is characterised by a galloping approach, accuracy, and reverse-swing. But it is his batting that is more likely to win matches. He boasts a prodigious array of strokes and is particularly strong driving through cover and mid-off off both front and back foot. He has two gears: block or blast. Cut off the big shots and Razzaq gets bogged down, although patience is his virtue as he demonstrated in a match-saving fifty against India in Mohali in 2005. Just prior to that he had also played a bewilderingly slow innings in Australia, scoring four runs in over two hours. When the occasion demands it though, as ODIs often do, he can still slog with the best of them: England were pillaged for a 22-ball 51 at the end of 2005. and then again for nearly 60 runs in the last three overs of an ODI in September the following year.

Full name Mohammad Moin Khan

Born September 23, 1971, Rawalpindi, Punjab

Current age 41 years 110 days

Major teams Pakistan, Karachi, Pakistan International Airlines

Batting style Right-hand bat

Bowling style Right-arm offbreak

Fielding position Wicketkeeper

Renowned for his combative skills, Moin Khan has spent most of his career slugging it out with Rashid Latif for the keeper's gloves. His batting ability has generally kept him in front although Latif is a better keeper. An effective rather than stylish batsman, Moin relishes a crisis and has held together Pakistan's lower order time and again. His quick feet and improvisation are even more productive in one-day cricket where he scores at speed. Behind the stumps, he is the chirpiest of keepers and the stump mike has revealed his full repertoire to the world. "Well bowled" and "shabash" are his most familiar soundbites. As captain, Moin struggled to get his way amid Pakistan's incessant in-fighting and was too defensive, as when England triumphed in the gloom of Karachi. Moin played through most of the 2003-04 season, missing only the last two Tests against India due to injury. However, his wicketkeeping form wasn't entirely convincing, and with Kamran Akmal staking a strong claim, Moin's days as an international cricketer might be drawing to a close.
